Drug trafficking worth R85-million stopped

Drug trafficking stopped, one arrest at a time.

With the help of the SAPS, National Crime Intelligence Unit, National Investigation Unit (NINU) and the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) successful arrested were done.

On Wednesday, November 5 the team managed to arrest two men, a Bulgarian national and a Durban club owner, at Middleburg Toll Plaza on the N4 highway late that night.
They were found in possession of ecstasy tablets with the street value of R85-million, which were being transported in a light delivery vehicle.

Following these arrests, the SAPS managed to recover precursor chemicals which are commonly used in the manufacturing of drugs, particularly cocaine.
The owner of the club and two of his employees were arrested.
In the meantime the drugs and chemicals are being sent for forensic analysis and on completion of the analysis, charges will be determined and the suspects formally charged.

On Thursday, November 6 at 16:50 police were patrolling Mandela Street, when an officer noticed that an unknown person was sitting down when he dropped something.
The suspect fled, with the police in hot pursuit. When they caught him, he was searched and they found a box of matches.

The police went back to where the suspect dropped the item and discovered that he had dropped a container with dagga inside.

On November 7 at 17:05 members of SAPS were doing their patrols, when they noticed members of the community go into a specific shop in Delville Street.

As the members went inside, they searched the shop owner and drugs were found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested and the pinches of white powder were taken to the police station.
