WITBANK NEWS under ‘investigation’
Being under ‘investigation’ for a while now, the verdict was that WITBANK NEWS was the best newspaper at the annual Oscar Frewin Awards last week.
WITBANK NEWS was named Newspaper of the Year for the sixth consecutive year at the awards function with a CSI theme. The awards were hosted by Highveld Media on Thursday, September 9 in Bethal.
Trevor Aingworth was also found guilty of taking the best photos and was awarded Photographer of the Year.
Worth mentioning is that Zita Goldswain won the most awards at the competition, namely 11.
Newspapers taking part in this competition from the CTP Middelburg group included: WITBANK NEWS, Cosmos Gazette, Middelburg Observer, Streeksnuus (Bronkhorstspruit) and Daller (Groblersdal) as well as newspapers from the Highveld Media group: Ridge Times, Echo, Standerton Advertiser, Ibis (Standerton) and Highvelder (Ermelo).
Judging in the writing categories was done by Dr Pedro Diederichs, Dr Lizette Odendaal, Dr Johann de Jager, Sholain Govender-Bateman, Willie Meyer and Hilke Steenkamp from the Department of Journalism at Tshwane University of Technology.
The general comments from the judges were that this year’s entries again showcased well-rounded local stories that served local communities’ needs for relevant information.
The photography section was judged by well-known international and national competition winner, Hennie Homann. In his comments, he gave valuable and practical tips on how to better that already winning photo.
