No home for scam victim

Excited to move into her new home, Ms Samkelisiwe Ndlala arrived to find the house she had 'bought' was never sold to her.

On Tuesday October 7, Ndlala spoke of her bitter disappointment and shock when she thought she was moving into her new home on Wednesday, October 1 and was then told that the house she had paid for was never really sold to her.

Ndlala told how she had been looking for a new home since the beginning of September and how she came across an advert on the internet for a home in a sought-after complex in Reyno Ridge.

She contacted a woman named Rose about the home advertised. “I was sent a contract, which I had to sign before depositing money into her account,” Ndlala told, saying that the woman, who said she was the owner of the house, even arranged for her to take a look at the house she ‘bought’.

On Wednesday Ndlala went to the house, she now believed to have bought from the owner, to find that the previous tenants she met, after she went to see the house for the first time, had already gone.
“I tried to phone the woman again, but her phone was off.”

Ndlala then made the discovery that the house was sold to someone else and realised that she had been scammed.

A case of theft under false pretence was opened at Witbank Police Station.
