Residents in Tasbet Park were up in arms over the lack of basic services. They took to the streets to show their frustrations, fires started and stones were thrown.

Tasbet Park residents took to the streets on Tuesday, September 23 at about 19:30 and barricaded the three-way stop sign at the corner of Springbok and Kiepersol streets.

The reason for the strike was that they have had it with the lack of basic services from the municipality. Residents barricaded the road, not allowing anyone to enter or exit Tasbet Park via those routes. Stones were being thrown at police vans and a fire was started in the middle of road accompanied by chanting and singing revolutionary songs with a twist, in the plight for water.

The residents complained that they have had to sit without water for almost a month, and no explanations or notice had been given to them to inform them of the water shortage.

Protestors sing and chant around a fire and a stone barrier on September 23 due to lack of water in Tasbet Park.

However, city administrator Theo van Vuuren put up a Facebook notice on his page informing the residents of the water shortage problems and that means are being made to speed up the process of restoring water supply to homes.

Tasbet Park Extension 12 seemed to be affected the most, with no water coming from their taps at all. According to the update by the administrator, it is hoped that water would be restored very soon.
