Tension between schools and taxi drivers

Recently there was an incident between a parent and a taxi driver in front of Hoërskool Reynopark. The parent allegedly got frustrated when the taxi driver did not follow the rules of the road and confronted him. The taxi driver apparently pulled out a firearm and threatened the parent.
The incident came to the attention of the school and WITBANK NEWS. The learners’ safety is called into question. Hoërskool Reynopark stated that there is frequent tension between taxi drivers and the school, although it is not drivers from the taxi association but the younger independent drivers that show disregard for the rules of the road and the safety of others, they explained.
They are well aware of the situation as the school has met with the SAPS regarding the safety of their learners.
Witbank High and Greendale Combined School also report a lot of tension with taxi drivers and school officials, although no incident of violence has occurred regarding taxi drivers.
