SBV robbery suspects out and about

Concerns were raised when two suspended policemen were sighted at Witbank Police Station.

On June 4 five accused were granted bail at R10 000 and were told to report to their relevant police stations every Friday until the court date of September 5.

On August 21 two of the suspects believed to be involved in the SBV armed robbery which took place on April 27, in which over R100-million had been stolen, were seen in civilian clothing, roaming about Witbank Police Station.
“They appeared for their departmental hearing,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police Communications.

He added that should members of the police commit any misconduct, regarding the SAPS regulations, standing orders and code of conduct, they are liable under the disciplinary procedures of the SAPS which can include departmental hearing in which factors determine if they are declared fit to continue their duties within the SAPS or result in the retrenchment or demotion of these members, among other internal department penalties.

“People should not misinterpret the fact that those members of the police were seen at the police station, the matter is being dealt with both judicially and internally within the police,” ended Capt Hall.
