Thokozani’s dream came true

Reach for a Dream Foundation believes in the power of dreams and therefore they made it possible with the help of the South African Police Service to make Thokozani Masilela’s dream come true.

Corporate communication of the SAPS has been working closely with Reach for a Dream Foundation this year, in granting wishes for children with terminal or life threatening illness.

They received a wish from nine-year-old Thokozani, who suffers from a lung obstructive disease, bronchiectasis. He is from eMalahleni and receives treatment at Steve Biko hospital.

“He dearly wishes to become a policeman and also to see Witbank Dam from the air,” said Brigadier Sally de Beer.
Brigadier Mahlangu of ORS kindly agreed to make this dream a reality and his dream came true on Tuesday, August 19.
Johannesburg Air Wing assisted to make a Squirrel helicopter, which was part of a routine crime prevention patrol, available.

The chopper landed at Witbank Police Station at 13:00, where a very excited Thokozani and his carer were picked up and taken for a flight over Witbank Dam, and then he was dropped off again at the police station.

Reach for a Dream also gave him a tablet, which was another wish.
“I have always wanted to be a policeman and today it came true just for a day,” said Thokozani.

Reach for a Dream encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illness and as a foundation they seek as far as possible to make dreams come true.
