Robbed after ATM withdrawal

A man was victim to criminals waiting at corners where ATM machines are situated.

Mr John Nxumalo was attacked on his way back home on August 21 after having withdrawn a large sum of money. He said that he always used the ATM by a petrol garage and had never had any of this kind of trouble, until that day.

“I was walking along OR Tambo Street when I was approached by a man who wanted to shake my hand, I refused because I did not know him and he then attacked me,” said Nxumalo.

Afterwards a silver car came from nowhere, parked beside them and the driver pointed a gun at Nxumalo.
A passenger jumped out of the car and searched him.

“It was as though they had been watching me because they went straight for my inner pockets and took all the money that I had just withdrawn,” said Nxumalo.

Nothing else was taken from him. After the suspects got the cash, they all jumped into the car and it sped off.

Nxumalo said as he was still in disbelief he was unable to get the registration number of the vehicle. He did not get quite a clear look at the suspects as they took him by surprise.
