Wedges are good for your buns

Eden Park Retirement Village’s Frail Care received a donation of wedge cushions.

The wedge cushions were donated by Saveways Super Spar on Friday, August 15.
These wedge cushions improve mobility, prevent pressure sores and prevent back injuries.

Many of the patients who are currently in Frail Care, have good ability to walk, but find it hard to get out of their chairs. This is mainly due to weak upper leg strength. The chair wedge raises the chair height, making it easier to get from sit to stand.

Nursing staff also don’t need to use so much of their own strength to get a patient into standing position.

“This sponsorship from Saveways Super Spar will make such a huge difference in these people’s lives, giving them a better quality of life,” said Ms Petro van der Merwe, South African Society of Physiotherapy Community Based Rehabilitation SIG Chairperson.

Petro is currently doing volunteer Fall Prevention Group Classes at Eden Park’s mid and frail care as part of improving physiotherapy health care service to less fortunate communities.
