The victim told police that he arranged a meeting with acquaintance on July 31 on the Old Middelburg Road. However when the victim arrived, his acquaintance and five other men forced him into a minibus and drove to downtown eMalahleni.
They mugged him and took his car keys and cell phone. As he tried to run away when he saw an opportunity, the robbers shot him in the shoulder however he still managed to get away.
He got a lift to the police station where an ambulance took him to the hospital. Witbank SAPS made four arrests on August 1 and the accused are all charged with kidnapping and attempted murder.
According to Capt Eddie Hall from Witbank SAPS they are investigating the case and looking into the reasons for the meeting as well as the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
