Witbank police pounce on crime

Witbank SAPS arrested 64 suspects over the past week for different crimes, which included drunken driving, assault and a car hijacking.

Altogether 10 were arrested for general theft, eight for assaults, two for reckless and negligent driving, eight were held for the possession of suspected stolen property, one for hijacking, nine for shoplifting, three were arrested for fraud, one for rape, and a further four were taken in for theft of a motor vehicle.

Four suspects allegedly caused malicious damage to property, two were in violation of the second hand goods Act, three had drugs on them, two were taken for being in possession of card cloning equipment and five for fraud.

One was detained for obstructing an officer in their duties; two for business robberies and nine people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
