Bikers open up their hearts and wallets to the SPCA

Most associate violence, drinking and noise with motorcycle clubs, but bikers from eMalahleni have heart, and a lot of it at that.

Over the past few months Witbank SPCA has appealed to the public to come forward with any extra food and blankets that will be put to use at Witbank SPCA to ensure that their boarders and residents go through the winter with a little warmth and love.

Witbank Biking Community (WBC) heard their cry and headed out on July 19.
Bikers from WBC – Victory Life, Blaze of Glory, Itchy Wheels, Dregs, Bikers Corner and Parrot Riders – made their way into Pet, Pool and Garden Centre and purchased a variety of animal foods and blankets.

These purchases made by animal loving bikers and members of the community were all added to the already huge pile of donations for the SPCA.
“The donation bin filled so quickly that before we knew it, we had three bakkies full and ready to go,” said Dale Bannatyne, organiser of the drive.

Donations came in from across the globe and for this, SPCA is incredibly grateful. The cash donations came just short of R17 000, every cent of which went to buying food. Pet and Pool kindly donated a large portion of dog/cat food and kitty litter as well and has agreed to store the surplus of food for the SPCA to collect whenever they need it.

SPCA received a boon of food thanks to the Witbank Biker Community and Dale Bannatyne’s efforts. “The total raised was just mind blowing, not to mention the overwhelming feeling of emotion I felt when I saw how many incredible people came out to do good for those that can’t,” continued Dale.

By the end of the day a total of 1 273kg of dog food, 85kg of cat food, and about 20 tins of food, bags and bags of kitty litter and more than 70 blankets were delivered to Witbank SPCA, escorted by WBC.

There is still about 1 000kg of food at Pet, Pool and Garden Centre for SPCA to help themselves to whenever the need may arise.
“Well done everybody and thank you very much. With the help of all these people we managed to get three full bakkie loads of food into two stock rooms at SPCA,” added Dale.

Dale and Witbank SPCA would like to thank the following people and businesses for their generous donations: Kay’s Interiors from eMalahleni; Chris Palmer from Nigeria; James Meikle from the Isle of Man; Linda Tozer from Zambia; Odessa Perelson from Port Elizabeth; Kim McKenzie form Pretoria; Walter Tullis & Associates from eMalahleni; Dr Ian and Liz Morris from Paarl; Julie Tozer from Pretoria; Prof Paul and Anne Skelton from Grahamstown; Jason and Alet Tarr from Pretoria; Chief and Carmey from Pretoria; Steve and Cindy from eMalahleni; Jamie Douglass from Oxford, England; Lloyd and Celest Berndt from Dubai; Doug Bradley from Pretoria; Jen Bradley from Pretoria; Kevin Gillmer from Pretoria; Anlie du Plessis from Pretoria; Garth Lawless from India; Karen van Breukelen from Pretoria; Struan Campbell from Johannesburg; Janine de Gouveia from Durban; Peter Dittberner from Johannesburg; Antoinette Nothling from Johannesburg; Lavagna family from eMalahleni; Chris Brooker & Associates from Johannesburg; Elaine Brooker from Johannesburg; Ursula Khun from Pretoria and Brad Forrest from Pretoria; the Schmidt family from eMalahleni; Grant Wood from Pretoria; Mike Scullard and the Kleinkoppie staff; President Veterinary Clinic from eMalahleni; Thugela Mining from eMalahleni; Lorna and Dave Bannatyne from eMalahleni; John Wegerly from eMalahleni; Sarah Bannatyne from eMalahleni and the Grant family and all their pets.
