Long wait for Gogo Ntuli (96)

It has been a very long wait for Gogo Sarah Ntuli of Vosman for an RDP house.

Gogo Ntuli settled with her family in Vosman in 1986 while it was still a farm. She said they were paying R30 monthly to the farm owner and they were told not to build permanent structures. Later the area was placed was under municipality.

Altogether Gogo Ntuli had nine children but three passed away, she settled with her six children and her husband at house number V 2486 in Vosman.
“The first councillor Mr Mdawe settled after me and he promised that an RDP house will be built for me and later former councillor Willie Bopape also promised that a house will be built for me. Later Moses Mhlanga as well promised that a house will be built for me, but now it is 2014 and I am still staying in my collapsing mud house,” explained Gogo Ntuli.

Gogo Ntuli said before her husband passed away her children and grandchildren build her a two-room brick house because they were concerned about her safety in the collapsing mud house. Gogo said she has been at the municipality several times over the years and she was told the same story that her house will be built.

She said she has now given up hope of getting an RDP house. She added that some people who have received RDP houses are younger than her and some came long after her and her family. She says she does not understand what criteria were used to allocate houses.
“I am staying in a collapsing mud house without water and electricity. I have never enjoyed any freedom that people are talking about. I do not know what I must do to get a house, maybe I do not deserve one,” said Gogo Ntuli sadly.
