Four armed robbers hold family at gunpoint

A family living in Reyno Ridge no longer feels safe at home after being the victims of an armed robbery.

On July 14, a husband and wife were busy organising things in their garage when four armed robbers caught them by surprise and held them at gunpoint.

The robbers used broad cable ties to bind the couple’s hands. Their three-year-old boy and his seven-month-old sister were unaware that their mom and dad were being held at gunpoint.
“They took my jewellery right off my hands,” said the wife.

The robbers then proceeded to steal every piece of electronics from the home, including a flat screen television, three cellular phones, a microwave, PlayStation and DVD players, among other items.
“They kept telling them to sleep, all they could do was listen,” said one of the neighbours as he explained what had happened.

One of the robbers grabbed the husband and dragged him through the house, searching for a safe. They opened every nook and cranny in search for a hidden safe but their efforts were wasted.

The four armed robbers held a family at gunpoint in their garage.

When the robbers had finished looting the home, they took the mother to her children along with the father.

They were about to steal one of the motor vehicles parked in the garage when the car’s alarm went off and scared the robbers off, who fled in a white bakkie.
“I heard a knock at the door. He still had the cable tie around his wrists when he came to ask for help. We went over to their house immediately and found one of their cars still idling, the robbers were nowhere to be seen,” said a neighbour living across the street.

The CPF of the area were the first to arrive and offer their help.
“I have no confidence in the police, I tried multiple times calling 10111 and there was no answer,” ended the neighbour.

“It was stated in a previous article that the 10 111 is no longer operational in eMalahleni, however nationally it works. The community is requested to call 013 6555 051/052 in cases of emergency and the police will assist as best they can in any situation,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police Communications.
