Police caution over cell phone thefts

Vosman police cautioned the public about theft of expensive cell phones.

They reported that on Saturday, July 5 at a about 10:30 a 31-year-old man was robbed of his cell phones. The incident happened at Leyland in Lynnville.

According to the police he was robbed of his two phones, a Nokia and a Blackberry valued at R10 500.

Information suggests that the victim was waiting for an order of his purchase he made over his cell phone.
The victim is a carpenter who had ordered materials after seeing an advert in a paper.

At an agreed time, the salesperson was supposed to deliver the materials at agreed time and place.
Another person called at the agreed time to find out about the delivery place and, according to the victim, he was speaking in Afrikaans.
The caller identified himself and told the victim that he has been sent by his boss to deliver the materials.

The victim was told to call the boss to confirm the deal, while he was doing that the suspect grab the phone and ran away.
According to the police this is a second incident that has been reported to them at the same venue and same method being used.

The suspects all talked in Afrikaans and target expensive cell phones such as the ones mentioned above.
No one has been arrested and police have opened a case of theft.
