Driver assaulted metres away from home

A well known driver at a towing service was attacked metres away from his house after he was returning home.

The incident happened on Saturday, June 28 at approximately 01:30 as Mr Jafter Mchavi was on his way home after a call out.
“I was near my house in Vosman when another car pulled up next to me,” explained Mchavi.

Mchavi was about to turn when the driver of the other vehicle came close to his door and asked him: “how can you turn here?”
Unaware of the situation Mchavi was about to turn, when the driver climbed out and stopped him.

They pulled Mchavi out of the roll-back and two other armed men climbed out of the vehicle.
They allegedly started beating him up.

He received several hits to his abdominal area, punch to his eye and was hit on the back of his head with the gun.
“The men told me I must give them something to apologize. When I searched my pockets I realized they had taken my wallet,” said Mchavi.
The men took his personal belongs, his wallet, money and his driver’s license.

They left the roll-back and Mchavi bleeding on the side of the road. He climbed in the vehicle and drove to the police station, still bleeding profusely from his eye and his head.

“I phoned my boss and told him about the situation and that I needed an ambulance,” explained Mchavi.
Mchavi was taken to Life Cosmos Hospital where he received stitches to his head.

On Tuesday, July 1 Mchavi returned to his doctor to check his eye and stomach to make sure everything was fine.
“I would like to thank God for protecting me and that I am still alive today,” said Mchavi.

Two of the suspects have already been arrested and they have been linked to similar cases in Vosman.
