Ogies crime increase

The Ogies SAPS are concerned about the various crimes that have been reported during the previous week and thieves that scam Phola residents of their money using the police name.

From June 16 to 23 there has been an increase in serious crimes such as assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The majority of these incident occurred at place where alcohol is sold and usually the victim is stabbed with a knife by the attacker say Ogies police.

A residential burglary is another type of crime that has made a bump in the statistics. The burglaries always take place at house where no one is home, which means that burglars are aware of daily routines. Please report anything suspicious in your neighbourhood to Ogies SAPS.

Armed robberies were also reported during this time. Robbers would threaten and steal from victims who are alone. The robbers where armed with knives according to the police. Apparently many of the victims were making their way from the shops.

Finally, theft of motor vehicle cases were reported. The Ogies SAPS urges residents to lock car doors even while driving.

A certain scam has come to the attention of the Ogies SAPS where criminals are using the name of the police to force people in Phola to give them money.

Apparently the suspects tell the family members of people who have been arrested for a crime and that they need to deposit the bail money into a specific account before they can be released. This is a scam and although the police are looking into the matter, they cannot be held responsible for any money lost.

There are very specific processes in place for a person arrested for a crime to apply for bail which extends beyond the police to the court.
Please contact the Ogies police on 013 643 1672 for any queries or to report a crime.
