Creative minds team up

Edna Cane Swanepoel and Mack Daryll, two local creative minds, are teaming up to create a film adaptation of her book ‘Soek Tog Na Liefde’.

Edna, who is a local writer, has written several published novels and has aspirations to write children’s stories in the future. Her book, ‘Soek Tog Na Liefde’ is about a couple who fell on hard times. Their situation drove a wedge in their relationship which led to the wife having an affair.

Her remorse over her unfaithfulness leads her on a journey of discovery and forgiveness.

Edna approached the local production company Mack Daryll Productions with the idea of making a film adaptation and they agreed.
“I liked the idea of someone here in eMalahleni writing. We want to put this city on the map and give a chance for people who never had a chance like this before,” commented Mack Darryll.

The studio has already filmed a series of short films which was released in June. Mack was born in the Congo and his passion for film led him to America where he studied at a film school.

He appeared in South African TV drama where he realised that his true passion is not being in front of the camera but behind it. Since then he has not looked back. Edna finished her book in 2011 and although it was published in Afrikaans the first step in the film making process is to translate it into English for the movie.

Edna and Mack are excited to share the story in an entirely new medium.

“There are many talented people in eMalahleni and we want to give them a chance to express that talent,” said Mack.
Edna concluded by saying, “All roads lead back to Witbank.”
