Little ones march for their rights

Roughly 600 pre-school learners, teachers and some parents got together close to the police station in Ga-Nala to hand over a memorandum to the Police commissioner to ask him and his police force to protect our children who are the victims of abuse.

The march and handover took place on June 6, at about 09:00.

Ms Marie Gibson (Principal of Bright Sparks Pre-school) welcomed the children. The march was opened by Ms Poppy Mokoena (Principal of Merlin Park). She read a story of how not to be afraid of anything and said a prayer.

Ms Marie then asked Ms Elizabeth Maboa (Principal of Lehlaka learning centre) to lead the children in singing the national anthem.

Lt Col Herold Mashile, Kriel Police commissioner was then asked to join and the memorandum was read to the children and the adults at the march by Mrs Gibson. The memorandum was then signed by the Principals of the various pre schools and learning centres.

The children marched down Park Avenue and turned into Lelie Street to enter the gates of Laerskool Onverwacht Primary. They gathered in their school hall and were entertained by Hester’s dance school. The learners then joined the dancers with some movement songs and had a lot of fun.

Ms Elizabeth introduced all the principals to the schools and thanked Gencor Mine for the lunch packages they sponsored for each child. The children departed happily after the event looking forward to their next march.

This was the third year running in which the children have marched for their rights.
