U-Turn on highway causes a death

As Mr Trevor Maelane (32) and his friend travelled together along the highway, their night ended in tragedy as Maelane was killed in an accident on his way home.

On Saturday evening, June 7 at approximately 19:20 an accident between a grey Polo Classic, a white mini bus and a Honda motorbike occurred at the N4/N12 split.

All the vehicles were traveling in the same direction on the highway towards eMalahleni.

It’s alleged that the driver of the grey Polo Classic did a u-turn on the highway, that is when Mr Andreas Kuna traveling in the mini bus collided into the Polo and at the same time Maelane also collided into the vehicle.

Emergency services arrived on scene, all the paramedics attended to all the injured patients.

While many other ambulances rushed patients to hospitals, one emergency service stabilized the seriously injured Maelane. On the way to hospital Maelane died. According to Mr Curtis Nkadiemg; Maelane’s brother; “Travis as we know him has been riding for over 17 year before his accident on Saturday. He looked quite shy from a distance, but he was the exact opposite of that.”

Maelane belonged to HighRollas Mcc and he was the treasurer for the club. Messages of condolences have flooded their Facebook page.

The memorial service of the late Mr Trevor “Travis” Maelane will be held at CRC Pretoria. Corner Lynwood Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive, Pretoria East. The service will start at 14:00 on Thursday, June 12.

The funeral will be held at Mthimkhulu Hall, Hector Road, Lynnville, eMalahleni on Saturday, June 14. Service starts at 08:30. They will then proceed to the Pretoria Memorial Cemetery in eMalahleni at 11:00.
