Puppies lie dead, abandoned in a pit

The senseless killing of animals continues as seven puppies, believed to be Boerbulls were found dead in Clewer.

“We were felling trees to make charcoal when we came across the pit in the field next to Clewer,” said Mr Martin Greyling.

Greyling and his brother, Herkie arrived at the field on June 9 at about 09:00, they had just felled a tree situated near a pit; when they looked into the pit they saw them, the dead puppies. Greyling immediately contacted WITBANK NEWS and the matter was reported to the Witbank SPCA.

“You can see they were killed and dumped here. The area is being turned into a dumping site – Clewer is the spot to dump, dump your rubbish, dump your dogs, dump anything,” he exclaimed.

SPCA Inspector Mpho Mokoena, and training Inspector Nicolous Mahlangu arrived at the scene and confirmed that the seven puppies were in fact Boerbull crosses. “They are about a week old, and have been lying here for just as long,” said Mahlangu.

Greyling added that they see a lot of things while operating their business of tree felling, and always report these incidents; he added that it is highly unlikely that the pups crawled into the pit and firmly believes they were killed, and abandoned there.

The remnants of a goat lamb were also found in the pit, however only its one leg and head were found, at first it was mistaken for another dog but Mahlangu climbed into the pit and confirmed it.

“If people don’t want puppies they should rather have their dogs sterilised or at least give the puppies away to someone who will care for and love them, instead of killing them and dumping them in a hole,” said Insp Mokoena with a tone of anger.

“The mother’s teats will still produce milk and be swollen,” said Mahlangu. Both Mokoena and Mahlangu set out about the area searching for a Boerbull mother believing that if they could find her they would find the killer of the puppies.
