Supper ruined but no lives lost

On May 11, a fire broke out in the refuse area close to Gani’s Wheels and Tyres.

According to witnesses on the scene, a homeless man had started cooking his dinner by lighting some loose papers, the wind picked the papers up and spread the fire throughout the refuse area, torching roughly two thirds of the area.

The man was able to flee the blaze unscathed; paramedics from Langamed Emergency Management Services responded to the scene and tended to the man who had lost his dinner.

Emalahleni Fire Department was out on scene within minutes of the fire being reported and had the blaze under control.
