Two of four suspects nabbed for copper theft

R5 000 worth of copper cabling was stolen from the Royal Albertros Building.

On May 2, four suspects gained access to the Royal Albertros Building in Extension 8 after tying up one the business’ guards who were stationed at the gate.

“We arrived at the business to find that the guard on duty wasn’t at his post, as we approached the gate, the missing guard caught my attention and warned us that there was trouble inside,” said Mr Kobus Erwin, owner of the business.

Erwin approached the guard and helped free him from his bonds; he was then told that there were four suspects inside the yard, they were after the copper cabling.

“We went in and found two of the four suspects in the process of cutting the copper cabling, one of the suspects charged me whilst holding a gardening fork in his hands, we were able to disarm him and subdue him along with the other suspect,” continued Erwin.
Erwin and his employees were able to recover roughly two meters of 3-phase cable; however the other two suspects managed to get away with at least 10 meters of the cable.

The cabling that was stolen was valued at about R5 000, police are requesting that anyone with information regarding the cable theft please come forward and call 013 655 5000.
