Crimes around Ga-Nala and neigbouring places

The Kriel police arrested seven suspects between the ages of 18 and 34 years old.

The suspects were arrested during police daily operations between April 18 and 25 for different crimes such as theft, murder, residential burglary, possession of drugs, escape from lawful custody, driving under influence of alcohol.

On April 26 two men were robbed on their way home in the evening. Police are on a manhunt for two armed robbers who allegedly threatened two friends with a firearm and ordered them to lie down on the ground, while the other one searched them and took their wallets, cellular phones and clothes. Once they had this all they fled.

In Rietspruit on April 17 a 27-year-old woman arrived at home and parked her car under a carport during the day.  She went into the house but later when she went back, she found out that her laptop was taken out of her car through a broken window. A case of theft out of a motor vehicle is being investigated by the police.

Still in Rietspruit on April 26 a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death with a beer bottle. Police attended to a complaint, on arrival they found a body of a woman lying in the street.

It is alleged the deceased was earlier seen with the suspect, her boyfriend and sister at a tavern drinking when a misunderstanding erupted over an ex-boyfriend and the boyfriend left.

She followed him to try settle their differences. After a while the sister followed also to try separate them as they were fighting outside, but later went back inside the tavern.
After a while she returned and found that both of them have left and followed the trail. On the way she found her sister lying on the ground bleeding.
She ran to get help, the police and ambulance arrived.  The deceased was certified dead on arrival by the paramedics.  The suspect was arrested later and charged with murder.

He appeared in Kriel Magistrate’s Court, the case was postponed to May 5 for formal bail application.
In Thubelihle on April 25 the police arrested a wanted suspect in the early hours of morning after a tip off. The suspect escaped from lawful custody after he was arrested for burglary that occurred on March 22.

The complainant left the church premises locked.  Later he received a call that the premises have been broken into. He then rushed there, on arrival he found that the door had been forced opened.  The church members received a tip off about the whereabouts of the suspects.
On March 26 the suspect was arrested by the police and escaped from police custody.  Lebohang Sibeko (25) was rearrested on April 25 and charged with burglary and escape from lawful custody. On Tuesday, April 29 he appeared in Kriel Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed to May 12 for further investigation.

In Ga-Nala on April 27 a 29-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs.  The police were patrolling Ga-Nala residential area when they received a tip off about a resident who was selling drugs.

On arrival they found the accused with dagga in his hands at the house. They further searched his room and found dagga worth R160. The drugs and money was confiscated.
