Blinkpan stomps down on violent crimes

Altogether 14 people were arrested over the past weekend in Blinkpan.

Among those arrests made was one for trespassing, two for common assault, three for assault with intent to cause grievously bodily harm, two for possession of dagga, one for liquor license Act contravention, one for public drinking and another for theft.

Police also issued five fines and confiscated 44 crates of liquor and seven empty crates with beer bottles, which were allegedly stocked to be sold illegally. Nine people were also arrested. Four will appear in Middelburg Magistrate’s Court and the other five were released on court warning.
In one of the assault cases, a 24-year-old man was found seriously injured, sustaining three open wounds to his head and shoulders.

The victim alleged that he was attacked by four men on Saturday, April 27 at about 21:00, on his way home. The four men allegedly attacked him with a golf stick and a sharp object. Two of the suspects, a 26- and 22-year-old, were to appear in Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 29 for assault with intent to cause grievously bodily harm.

To avoid similar attacks, police requested the community to take some responsibility for their own safety and avoid walking alone at nights.
