R20 000 reward offered after burglary

While a family was out attending a midnight church service, burglars were in their home stealing their belongings.

The burglary took place on April 19 at a farm along the Verena Road. The couple returned home to find that burglars had broken into their home. The thieves had cut the burglar proofing away from one of the windows and gained entry through one of the windows.

“The burglars attempted to break the large safe open using a pickaxe but failed, instead they cut the safe out from the wall,” said Sgt Malusi Nkabinde, investigating officer.

According to the homeowner the burglars had stolen laptops, which he had brought home from the factory for the weekend.
They also stole a number of items including their televisions, a number of electronic devices including an external hard-drive. The burglars raided the kitchen stealing all the cutlery and food, the bathrooms stealing all the towels, and five cellular phones throughout the house.

In the safe was a substantial amount of money and two firearms. The burglars had loaded the safe and its contents as well as all the stolen items into the home owner’s Isuzu Frontier and drove off.

The vehicle was recovered by police the following day in Vosman. Police have visited the crime scene and prints were taken.
The victim of the burglary has offered a R20 000 reward for positive information leading to the arrests of the suspects responsible for the burglary.
