Official hand over of Thanduxolo Special School

Celebrations with singing and dancing were the order of the day when Thanduxolo Special School was officially handed over.

Mpumalanga MEC for Education Mrs Reginah Mhaule and MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Ms Dikeledi Mahlangu, attended the ceremony in Klarinet on Tuesday, March 18.

Mrs Mahaule praised the department for the record time they took to build the school. She said she visited the area together with Mpumalanga premier, Mr D.D. Mabuza, in January last year. She thanked community leaders and the community for their support and urged them to take good care of the school. “The school has been built for our children, they and the future generations must use it. It is one of the schools in the province to teach children with special needs, the children acquire skills from the schools for their survival. The structure looks very beautiful and very new, please keep it this way.”

The new school consists of 10 classrooms, four workshops, administration block, two garages and sport grounds. The skills offered at this school include self care; socialisation; perceptual motor development; functional scholastic; work skills as well as job preparation programmes such as woodwork, painting, renovations, needlework, cane work, knitting, laundry, domestic and mesh wire making and beadwork.

The school was also presented with a 22-seater bus.
Children from as far as Ogies attend the school.
Ms Mahlangu thanked the premier for his support.
School choir rendered music and gumboot dance to show their appreciation.
