Driver surrounded by crumpled wreckage

A bend on the old Ogies road has claimed many lives so far. On Friday it once again sent two drivers to the hospital.

An accident happened on April 4 at approximately 19:20, involving a bus and a white Audi.

Mr David Bodenstein was travelling in his white Audi towards eMalahleni and Mr Jones Kgomo was driving his bus in the opposite direction.

Allegedly Bodenstein came across the road and collided with the bus.
With the force of the impact the bus pushed the Audi off the road, ripping off the passenger door and crashing into the rest of the car, except the driver’s seat.

Emergency services arrived on scene. Kgomo was stabilised and taken to Life Cosmos Hospital, while the rest of the emergency personnel freed Bodenstein from his vehicle.

Kgomo was discharged from hospital and was back at work on Monday, April 7.
Kgomo was not willing to comment on the accident.

Bodenstein was stabilised and taken to Life Cosmos Hospital for treatment to his injuries. He was taken into theatre on Saturday, April 5 for surgery.

On Monday morning, April 7 Bodenstein was transferred to Eugene Marie Hospital in Pretoria where he was taken into theatre once again for a nine to 11-hour operation.

“Recently David attended a Mighty Men Conference where pastors prayed for him and they said his life is going to change,” said a family member of Bodenstein, who would not like to be named.

Bodenstein sustained multiple injuries, he broke vertebras in his back and neck and broke his ankle and leg.
