Red Ants assist in relocations

Some residents of Empumelweleni were relocated to another area as they have built their houses where a road was to be constructed.

The 48 families had their houses dismantled with assistance from the Red Ants. The families were moved on Tuesday, March 25.

According to Councillor Timothy Lukhele the residents have notified through letters and a court order that they were to be relocated. This has been going on for some months as some of the residents were against the relocation.

They complained that some have built permanent structures, their children used to walk to the nearby schools and they were also near pick up points for their work transport.

“What is going to happen to our children, who is going to pay for their transport as they will need one now? They used to walk to the nearby schools. The new place does not have water and we have to struggle build our homes again,” they complained.

Cllr Lukhele added they were assisting the residents with free transport for their relocation. He also said other residents were helping to pack their goods into the trucks.

The affected residents have resisted moving for many reasons. The police were in attendance to keep law and order.
