A massive pothole trapped a delivery truck in its snare and delayed traffic on Tuesday when a water pipe burst and flooded the street.
On April 1 two almost simultaneous incidents were reported involving potholes, holes big enough to sink a heavy vehicle.
The first incident was reported in Van Rensburg Street, where two vehicles allegedly collided as one of the drivers had to slow down to avoid the hole in the road.
Moments later, a delivery truck got caught in a hole in Plumer Street.
“I couldn’t see the hole because it was filled with water,”
the driver said on the scene. Before the incident occurred,
a water pipe burst filling the road with water.
The truck’s back wheel got stuck in the hole, which sunk in even deeper due to the water leak.
“Can you imagine what would have happened if a small motor vehicle drove through this hole?” one of the bystanders on the scene asked.
No injuries were reported. The municipality could not give comment on the matter before deadline.
