Robbers get away with gun but no cash

A cash-in transit heist took place in Klipfontein as a G4S guard returned from Checkers Hyper to his vehicle.

It was raining on March 8 when the G4S van pulled up to Checkers Hyper. One of its guards exited the vehicle and made his way to the supermarket store.

The guard had already returned to the vehicle, depositing five canisters into the truck and was on his way back with a sixth canister at about 09:05 when a man came up behind him and disarmed the guard of his firearm, a 9mm Norinco (serial: 49204790).

Two more suspects approached the guard from the front, both wielded firearms, as the driver of the van saw what was happening, he began driving toward the suspects, one of the suspects snatched the canister from the guard and the three suspects fled the area.
The canister that the robbers managed to acquire was empty, however they did manage to get away with the guard’s handgun valued at R2 000.

Police are currently investigating a case of robbery with firearms and no arrests have yet been made.
The guard was unavailable for comment on the situation.
