Lukhele told to pay more than R9 000 for water

Mr A.M. Lukhele said he was not only shocked, but was disappointed by the local municipality after he was told that he must pay more than R9 000 for water only.

Mr Lukhele of Rampa Street in Ackerville explained that his problems started in December last year when he was told that his water account was R9 123 00 for the month of December. In fact his municipality bill for December was R13 518 80 and in January he was billed for R22 848 60 and is expected to pay R 6 905 40 just for water only.

He said he contacted the municipality several times to try and find out where the problem was, but he was told that he has a leaking pipe.

Mr Lukhele admitted that his outside toilet was leaking and that was immediately fixed. His other problem is that there is underground water coming from the whole of his yard. Even the neighbours have the same problem of water coming from the ground.

“They told me that they have also complained to the municipality about the water several times without any help. We have also reported the matter to our ward councilor, Cllr John Shiba and he has promised to look  at the matter,” noted Mr Lukhele.
Water is also coming out of the ground on the street near Mr Lukhele’s house and it is not clear whether it is a leak from a water pipe or just coming from the ground.

A printout of the water usage was provided for Mr Lukhele on how the amount came about. He said he couldn’t afford to pay such a huge amount just for water only.

Cllr Shiba has promised to take the matter up with the council and has invited Mr Lukhele to contact him so that they can visit the council.
