Police pleads for cooperation

Vosman police are on a program to visit different sectors of KwaGuqa to ask the community for their cooperation in fighting crime.

Captain L.B. Aphane visited the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, February 1 to speak about crime in general. He thanked the church for praying for them during the commemoration of the police day held on January 27.

Captain Aphane said they were faced with a lot of challenges, with police being killed and at the same time, some police officers killing members of the community during strike actions. He said he does not have answers for the killings, but he was hopeful  that a solution will be found to stop the killings. He said their job as police officers, was to keep law and order, not solve community problems, as that was the work of the politicians.

“Presently we have arrested two suspects in connection with murders, both of the men were reported missing and their bodies were later found in a badly state of decomposition. One was found on the road to Loskop Dam and the other was found near Kromdraai. We have arrested suspects in connection with both murders and we are still investigating. We also thank the community for their cooperation in solving crimes in the city.”

Captain Aphane said drugs; house breaking and business robbery remain a challenge in the city and tops serious numbers. He also said he was disappointed by some members of the community, who stood up and left during a march against drugs. He said he had expected a large number of people to join the march. The march organised last year by among others senior persecutors Mr Fannie Mavundla and Kopanang Secondary School principal Mr O. Usinga and others.

Captain Apahne said they were going to visit every sector in KwaGuqa and the Extensions in their door-to-door campaign in an attempt to work hand in hand with the community.

“We will always be there to keep law and order in the community and please support us and work with us,” added Captain Aphane.
