Driver abducted, then dumped in Bronkies

One RAM courier driver was abducted, after he made a delivery into a shop and on his way back to his vehicle, he was held up and taken hostage.

On Friday, January 31 at approximately 09:30 two RAM courier vehicles, one a bakkie and the other a Combi, pulled in by the delivery zone at Highveld Mall.

A while later two other vehicles, a grey Volkswagen Golf and a white Ford Focus, stopped at the security gate and handed in a delivery note.

The security guard at the gate took down the registration numbers of the vehicles and let them in.
The driver in the Combi, Mr Nkosinathi Mahlangu, went inside the mall and delivered a few items, then returned to his vehicle to get more items.

Once he approached his vehicle, the men in the other vehicles jumped out and took various items from the back of the Combi and took Mahlangu hostage.

The two vehicles drove out of the delivery zone casually.
The men drove out on the N4 highway and headed towards Pretoria, when they reached Bronkhorstspruit, the driver was dumped at the side of the road.

Witbank police members and members from the local criminal record centre attended to the scene, fingerprints were taken from the vehicle.

While police members were on scene, they received a call that the missing driver has been found.
“I was scared when they took me into their vehicle and I wondered what they were going to do with me. Once they told me to climb out, I was relieved,” said Mahlangu.

The cell phones and jewellery that was stolen, was not recovered.
“Once Highveld Mall security arrived on scene, they discovered that a fraudulent delivery note was handed in, they also gave the police the two registration number plates of the vehicle,” said Ms Sandra van der Walt General Manager of Highveld Mall.
