Smell lingers near Licensing Department

A sewerage problem in Hertzog and Havenga streets has returned once again after six months.

Sewerage near the Witbank Licensing Department flowed down the road once again on Thursday, January 16.

The streets were covered in sewerage; motorist and pedestrians were overcome with the nauseating smell of raw sewerage.
On the corner of Havenga Street, there is a woman selling food from a tuck shop.

“It’s a health hazard, as this woman is serving food with sewerage running passed.” said one concerned resident.
In June last year, residents living in the area complained about the same situation in the area.

Most of the residents in the two streets have contacted Emalahleni Municipality to complain about the situation, so that it can be fixed.

“The municipality is aware of the situation and has on a number of occasion tried to fix the problem, but it seems that the problem is recurring, the pipe might have collapsed and we need to re-check what is the actual problem, it may be caused by littering.

The permanent solution to that is: The Nkangala District Municipality is in the process or at the stage of appointing a contractor to fix the problem, we hope we will no longer face the same challenge and further more,  we want to encourage people to stop littering to avoid blockages,” said Mr Lebo Mofokeng spokesperson from Emalahleni City Council.
