Doctor killed in collision

A former engineer lost his life in an accident on the Groblersdal Road.

Doctor Allit Johan Pienaar died in a head-on collision on Friday, January 10 at approximately 13:30.
Dr Pienaar and his wife Martie were on their way to their farm in Alldays in Limpopo.

Ms Raylene Pienaar, said her mother-in-law is in a stable condition and is recovering in Midmed Hospital in Middelburg.
Ms Pienaar described the accident as unfortunate and said the family is not yet sure what the exact cause of the accident is.

Doctor Pienaar was a well-known key role-player in the rich history of Evraz Highveld Steel. He had 37 and a half years of service with the company of which he served as director on the board for 16 years.

Doctor Pienaar was awarded an Anglo American scholarship in 1966.  He started his career with Highveld on December 8, 1969.
He obtained a BSc (Eng) (1969) in electrical engineering and MSc (Eng) (1973) in electrical control systems. In 1980 he completed
a PhD through RAU in association with a number of universities overseas.

On Tuesday, January 14 the funeral arrangements had not yet been finalised.

The couple resided in eMalahleni for more than 40 years.
