Witbank correctional officials presented with awards

Men and women of various sporting codes at Witbank Management Area were presented with awards.

Ranging from certificates to full-size trophies and monetary tokens of appreciation during a sports gala dinner that took place at 4SAI at Middelburg SANDF Military base, recently.

The Area Commissioner of Witbank Mr Mandla Sibanyoni, who was behind these awards, accompanied by Area Commissioner of Polokwane Management Area Mr Kenneth Mthombeni experienced yet another sigh of joy and success when they awarded these prizes to healthy and committed sports men and women of the Department of Correctional Services in Witbank. All were dressed to kill, ready to celebrate another milestone.

The prize of a big trophy and a R2 000 cheque spending money for the sportswoman and sportsman of the year were awarded to Ms Tsholofelo Rasedile and Mr Peter Tukwani, respectively. Ms Tsholofelo Rasedile was presented by the Area Commissioner with other two trophies of best performance in netball and basketball in the Witbank Management Area. A little profile includes a selection in the LMN Regional team, representing LMN in the National Badminton championships that were held in Bloemfontein last year in January. She participated in various sections where she has done well in ladies doubles, where she got position two with her partner, she was also recognised nationally by her performance and was graded no five in DCS. The LMN team got position two. She was also selected to represent DCS in one of the SA biggest tournament in October (Melville Cup) where she did very well.

Eight athletes from Witbank Management Area participated in the recent comrade’s marathon where five of them reached the finishing line after eight hours fifty minutes of running and the remaining three, did it in ten hours.

Mr Tukwana has emerged as the most committed sportsman and has been crowned the sportsman of the year in the management Area. He won five trophies during the sports gala dinner. His sporting codes are athletics, soccer and aerobics.

Other winners announced and presented with trophies were: Mr V.P.Vilakazi (aerobics), Mr B.S. Tlou and A.B. Dladla from Middelburg Correctional Centre (endurance walk), Mr Pele Mthimunye and Ms Jabu Nkosi (badminton), Ms K.J. Tsela, N.A. Nkosi, T.A. Rasedile and U.N. Skosana (Netball), Ms E.P. Maibelo (Bowling) and M. T. Tshehla and D. Skosana (Volleyball) and Ms V. Makamo (best soloist in the Witbank management Area Officials’ Choir.

Both the sports man and sports woman, as well as Ms Maibelo received a financial token of appreciation from an external stakeholder, Pastor Mabogoane, which will be used for their own spending. In appreciation the Area Commissioners wished all participants a continuous sportsmanship, healthy lifestyle and a fabulous festive season and a prosperous new year. The gala dinner continued and ended with delicious three course meals, music, dancing and entertainment till very late.
