A Christmas shopping-spree for burglars and robbers

The December holidays are usually a time to be merry, but some eMalahleni residents found no joy amidst the festive cheer, when criminals decided to do their own ‘Christmas shopping’.

The total of house burglaries reported for December amounted to 106. The number of house robberies had, however, decreased since last year and only three incidents were reported from different areas namely: Tasbet, Duvha and Klarinet.
55 Businesses suffered a loss as burglars raided stores throughout December.

At the beginning of the New Year, on January 3, a business robbery was reported when three men targeted a PEP Store in the Central Business District.

It was reported that one of the employees were cashing up and were just about to close the store, when an armed man and two others rounded up the staff and ordered them into the back of the store, while they emptied the tills.

Residents are urged to report burglaries and robberies to help police catch the culprits.
