Local yachtsmen take the lead

There were fairly strong winds throughout Saturday making racing extremely interesting with strong competition from the visiting yachtsmen

Once again the Witbank Yacht and Aquatic Club (WYAC) hosted Mpumalanga Hunter Class Championship which attracted an entry of 11 yachts from various yacht clubs throughout Mpumalanga, North West Province, Vaaldam and KwaZulu-Natal.

Under the watchful eye of experienced bridge officer, Ronnie Gurnell from Johannesburg, the yachts completed a total of six races during Saturday, March 23, with local yachts quickly taking the lead.

There were fairly strong winds throughout Saturday making racing extremely interesting with strong competition from the visiting yachtsmen.

Sunday proved to be a day with very little wind and high temperatures resulting in only one race being completed.

The final results of the seven races were: Dave Martinson and John Bruckman from WYAC sailing ‘Guess who’ took first place.

In second place were Rory and Craig Hay also from WYAC sailing Donatella and Tony Cockeril and Aisha Genloud from Henley Midmar Yacht Club sailing ‘Odins eye’ coming in third.

At the prize giving on Sunday, March 24 bridge officer, Mark Layers and scorekeepers were thanked for their assistance and WYAC staff for their excellent hospitality.

The National Sea Rescue Institute was in attendance and was thanked for their support over the weekend.
