Spurs substituted Doctor Skhosana for the under 23 player

Even though Witbank Spurs displayed a great performance against Lamontville Golden Arrows, it was too little too late.

The well attended Nedbank Cup last 16 soccer match was played at the Puma Stadium on Saturday, February 16; Spurs were beaten 2-1.

Arrows stamped their authority early in the match even after Spurs displaying their passing game but could not penetrate Arrows defence.

The field had to be inspected before the start of the match as the pouring rain nearly stopped the match but a few minutes later the match commissioner gave the go ahead.

Spurs Cleopas Dube tested the Arrows keeper Nkosingiphile Gumede with a header from a Khethukuthula Zwane pass.

Arrows captain Limbikani Mzava played well at the back and led by example.

Arrows Divine Lunga set a beautiful cross to Knox Mutizwa but Spurs keeper Edmore Sibanda made a safe catch of the ball.

Spurs had a place-kick and Zwane nearly scored and Dube was in the picture again but his shot went wide.

Arrows Lerato Lamola was always a menace to Spurs whenever he was in possession.

Arrows Venter and Mutizwa played well to control the Middlefield.

Lamola opened scored Arrows first goals after Spurs defence were caught off guard.

Spurs substituted Doctor Skhosana for the under 23 player, Lunathi Mdatyulwa who had a good game.

In the second half Spurs tried to press hard for an equaliser and Bonga Nkosi spoil a good move initiated by the evergreen Mdatyulwa and Dube header went wide.

Dube was bought down near the danger zone and Sibanda took the kick which was blocked for a corner kick.

Lamola nearly scored with a long range and was in the picture when he scored Arrows second goal to make it 2-0.

Zwane shot went over the bar.

Spurs scored their only goal deep into the second half which was too little too late.
