Witbank Spurs held to a 1-1 draw by Uthongathi

Relegation threatened Witbank Spurs will have to up their games going forward. This was evident when they played to a draw with Uthongathi.

The national first division game was played at the Puma Stadium on Saturday, February 9 and the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

The Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba coached team, even though they played well against the sixth placed team, they need to pull up their socks.

From the first whistle Uthongathi tried to draw out Spurs from their half by playing a passing game.

Spurs had their first corner-kick which Doctor Skhosana shot wide.

On the other end Uthongathi had their place-kick saved by Spurs goalkeeper Colile Mkhatshwa. Spurs winger Khethukuthula ‘Cat’ Zwane shot hit the post.

Spurs had two corner-kicks which were both saved. Another cross by Skhosana and Zwane failed to find the target.

Skhosana long drive shot was over the bar and Uthongathi chance was saved by Dineo Shaku at the back. Uthongathi were awarded a penalty after Mkhatshwa foiled a Uthongathi player inside the danger zone.

Uthongathi register their first goal but Zwane rub it off with an equaliser to make it 1-1 at half time.

Spurs striker Sauls Joshua missed several chances together with Cleopas Dube to put Spurs in the front.

Spurs Patrick Mubayiwa had his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

Spurs Thabang Klaas was denied a chance to head home from a close range and Uthongathi had their shot saved for a corner-kick.

Both teams made some substitutes and the game liven up a bit but both teams failed to break the deadlock.
