Spurs were just magnificent going forward

Witbank Spurs played one of their best football games to knockout premier league side, Maritzburg United out of the Nedbank Cup.

Spurs were just magnificent going forward.

The game was played at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Sunday, January 27 and they won 5-4 after penalties, the teams draw 2-2 at full time.

Spurs had the terrible Mubayiwa twins Peter and Patrick, Khethukuthula Zwane and Joshua Sauls leading the attack.

While United gained the upper hand from the first minutes of the game, Spurs soon gained confidence and directed terms.

United had a place-kick and Thabiso Kutumele nearly scored.

Spurs forced United to defend and they had a breakthrough which was defended for a corner-kick.

Sauls beat United keeper Bongane Mpandle with a low header from across.

Spurs were coming from all angles and forced United defence led by veteran Siyanda Xulu to the wall.

United Yannick Zakri set the teams on level terms after beating Spurs keeper Edmore Sibanda hands down.

Xulu nearly scored an own goal but defended for a corner. Spurs were on the lead again when Zwane beat Mpandle with a shot, to make it 2-1.

Peter nearly scored with a long drive as the teams break for a half time.

In the second half Spurs started where they left off, but United where not to be outdone when Fortune Makaringe had his shot hitting the upright.

United forced the game into extra time with a Zakri shot after Spurs defence lost concentration.

Both teams offered the fans with quality football and they enjoy every minute of the game.

As both teams could not fid the target, they went for the penalty shoot-out.

Spurs came victorious as Sibanda became a hero by saving two penalties.

Spurs will now move into the second round of the cup.

Spurs coach Shakes Mashaba have mould the team into a mean machine.
