Citylads wins eMalahleni derby

The stadium was filled to capacity reminding one of the good old days

Like all derbies, be it in soccer, tennis, boxing, cricket or chess, derbies has their share of dramas.

Be it Kaizer Chiefs playing Orlando Pirates or in Scotland Celtics facing Rangers or in Manchester, the Merseyside derby, Manchester United v Liverpool arguably one of the biggest rivalries, Barcelona versus Real Madrid, or in Russia Dynamo Zagreb v Red Star Belgrade and Boca Juniors facing River Plate in Argentine.

In chess it was Bobby Fischer of USA and the former world chess champion Boris Spassky of Soviet Union.

In eMalahleni, Witbank Citylads played their rivals Bakone F.C. at the Lynnville Stadium on Saturday, 12.

The stadium was filled to capacity reminding one of the good old days when Witbank Black Aces used to play against the likes of Orlando Pirates or Moroka Swallows.

In the first half both teams took their chances but they both failed to find the target.

The score remained 0-0.

In the second half Citylads showed why they are placed second on the log with 34 points after playing 16 games and being separated by a single point by the log leaders Acornbush United with 35 points. They scored the only goal of the match from a corner-kick to cement their dominance to Bakone.

After the goal Bakone tried their best for a comeback and made several attempts at goal but they find Citylads very strong at the back.

In one of their attempts, a Bakone player missed a chance to equalise when his shot went wide another shot just hit a Citylads defender.

While at the other side, a Citylads defender failed to connect after a corner-kick.

While both teams made some changes, they failed to do any change in the result of the game.

A Bakone shot was saved by the ever alert Citylads goalkeeper in the dying minutes of the game.

Bakone remains eighth on the log with 22 points; with the same number of games as Citylads.

Supporters of both teams were happy about the skills displayed by both teams.

There was also drama inside and outside the pitch.
