Lauren always wanted to do the train race

Lauren de Swardt (29) who was diagnosed with a rare lung disease always wanted to do the train race but was unable to; this year her dream came true.

On Saturday, August 19 the annual Greatest Train Race took place once again from eMalahleni to Middelburg.

Estie Bel a paramedic from ER24 celebrated her birthday on Saturday; she ran the 15km race.

For the last five kilometres of the race, Estie pushed Lauren in a wheel chair all the way to the end.

“I always wanted to compete in the train race, but I was unable to do so with my lung disease. But this year my dream came true as Estie pushed me to the end,” said Lauren.

Lauren de Swardt and Estie Biela received medals at the end of the race, something to be very proud of.

Lauren has been for a round of chemotherapy, but she still needs to go for another round.
The whole ER24 team made this day possible for Lauren.

Lauren who works for E24 will get back to work once she has finished with her chemotherapy.

Earlier this year Lauren was diagnosed with Pulmonary Langerhans’ Cell Histiocytosis (PLCH). Her case is the 10th reported case world wide.
