The Protective Load Reduction programme is starting to pay dividends.
This does not mean that the electricity will be kept on in areas where the payment rate is lower than 60%. On the contrary, the electricity interruptions will continue but different time slots have been agreed on.
The community of Phola complained about the times in which they have no electricity due to the Protective Load Reduction programme. They met the Executive Mayor, Cllr Lindiwe Ntshalintshali on Thursday, August 3.
This decision was made after the community of Phola met up with the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Cllr Lindiwe Ntshalintshali on Thursday, August 3 to complain about the inconvenience of electricity interruptions.
Const Thabang Petros Mabena, Phola Cooperate Communication Officer said the community criticized the times the municipality switched the electricity off.
“The switching off times does not suit the community because during those times criminal activities are occurring. They also said a house caught fire due to the coming and going of electricity earlier in the week,” Const Mabena said.
Children play among the illegal connections in some of the suburbs in Emalahleni Local Municipality.
He reported that in response the mayor explained clearly to the community delegates the purpose of the Protective Load Reduction programme and the reason why they chose those specific times.
The municipality decided to review the times the electricity is interrupted.
