Aldo and Mariska win their bouts

Decota Mixed Martial Arts Combat Club’s fighters, Aldo Booysen and Mariska Joubert have come out on top in their recent fights at MFC90.

Decota Mixed Martial Arts Combat Club’s fighters, Aldo Booysen and Mariska Joubert have come out on top in their recent fights at MFC90.

“It was an awesome event with an action packed fight card and the top amateur promotion in South Africa,” said Fanie Prinsloo, Decota coach.

Aldo was first up from Decota on March 5 at the Greyville Convention Center in Durban. He was pitted against Piesan van Huuisen from Garage Boys.

Aldo was the underdog going into the fight with the odds stacked up against him with Piesan being the previous Bantamweight Champion with the experience of 15 fights under his belt.

“That didn’t stop Aldo as he outclassed Piesan shutting down his game plan perfectly,” said Fanie.

The fight started with both boys going for the knockout, but shortly afterwards took to the ground. Piesang came with some hard ground and pound techniques but Aldo kept his composure, reversed it and dominated his opponent – the fight went the distance of three rounds of all out war.

Mariska Joubert was awarded the win in her fight against Ndu Nyende from Super Warriors Club.

The fight was declared a split draw with both fighters’ hands being raised. This will propel Aldo towards title contention in the near future.

Decota’s second fight for the night was that of their first female fighter, Mariska Joubert.
Mariska took to the cage against Ndu Nyande from Super Warriors Club.
The fact that Ndu’s weight was off by two kilograms from her weigh in did not deter or bother Mariska as she kept her focus and composure throughout the bout.

Round one was all business with both fighters going into a stand-up exchange. Mariska landed a huge push kick followed by a left hook resulting in Ndu being stunned momentarily as her knee buckled – Mariska capitalised on this and secured the takedown followed by a rear naked choke submission resulting in a first round win for Mariska at just 35 seconds into the round.
