Charged on two chargers instead of one

“Witbank police picked up an increase over the past few months of cases where complainants are giving false statements under oath,”

Instead of being arrested for one charge a suspect got arrested for a second charge.

On Wednesday evening, February 1 at 20:30 police members were patrolling when they received a radio call about an accident in Extension 8 in Malherbe Street.

When the police arrived on scene they found two vehicles which had collided, a silver Toyota Tazz and a green Volvo.

The driver of the Tazz said he did not drive the vehicle, that is when the driver of the Volvo along with eye witnesses informed the police that he was indeed the driver.

The driver of the Tazz was however arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for defeating the ends of justice.

“Witbank police picked up an increase over the past few months of cases where complainants are giving false statements under oath,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson from Witbank Police Station.

Brigadier Delisiwe Motha warns the public that they will be arrested for defeating the ends of justice.

“When giving information under oath one must be honest and truthful,” said Motha.
