Police cleans the CBD of counterfeit goods

As part of their operations the police took to the streets to remove counterfeit goods. This was done on Thursday, January 19. With the assistance of the Local Law Enforcement Agencies and Customs a total of 11 shops were searched.

The first stop that was made was at a block of shops situated at Kruger Street, one store there was found with numerous expired goods on their shelves.

Items found to have expired range from soup, tea, biscuits, to sweets and soft porridge. The previous day being a Wednesday counterfeit goods such as shoes and clothes were also confiscated from sellers in the Central Business District (CBD) together with pirated DVD’s.

Other expired grocery items found on Thursday, January 19 when police were doing an operation with the aim of removing counterfeit goods.

During the operation Sector Commander of Sector 5, Lt Christina Sibeko emphasised that such can not be tolerated.

“How can you sell expired items to customers?” questioned Lt Sibeko to one of the employees at the shop.

Other successes of the operation include three suspects who got arrested for possession of dagga and heroine, one for unlawful possession of ammunition and three suspects for dealing in drugs.

Expired goods, counterfeit clothing and DVD’s could be of the street value of R300 000.

Brig Delisiwe Motha warned the public not to buy any counterfeit goods and to report such business to Witbank SAPS on 0136555052 or CRIME STOP ON 0860010111.
