Spurs take the win against Free State Stars

Witbank Spurs visited its happy hunting ground Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday for the Nedbank Cup Last 32 encounter.

The boys managed to advance to the next stage courtesy of a first half strike by Sici Shelembe against Free State Stars.

It has been a tough couple of weeks for the team and they needed this win to life the spirit in the camp. “We started the game well and Ralph Matema rattled the crossbar with only seven minutes on the clock. Lindokuhle Nkambule pulled off a couple of good saves to keep us in the game,” said George Khumalo, Spurs PRO.

In the 42nd minute Rhulani Manzini received his marching orders after he did not get into a stretcher. Spurs managed to score in the 44th minute through a well-taken free kick by Sici Shelembe.

“The technical team came up with a plan in the second half which worked well for us,” added Khumalo. Victor Ngunyule lead the defence which played their hearts out, keeper Lindo Nkambule walked away with the man of the match award and a R5 000 prize to boot.

“We have not shifted our focus as the playoffs spot still remains a priority. We will be visiting FC Cape Town this Saturday afternoon and nothing but a win will be acceptable. The boys are aware that in order to realize our dream we need to win our remaining games,” ended Khumalo.

Witbank Spurs would like to thank everyone who has been there for them during these trying times. Their support has given Spurs the courage and promise to work hard to ensure that they deliver what the fans expect.
