Rage fueled harassment and alleged assault

While he was making his way to her she drove into the Mashekane Village and screamed out the window for help in tears.

Road rage has reached a new high as a woman recalls the terrifying story of the day she feared for her life when four people in a Nissan Bakkie chased her down, threatened and insulted her and narrowly escaped unharmed were it not for the help of local resident at Mashekane Village.

On July 26 she was driving home on the Duvha Road behind a truck when she saw a Nissan Bakkie swerving, flashing lights and hooting at her. At first she was annoyed but soon that turned into fear when the bakkie did not overtake her or the truck but when she slowed down to stop at the three way stop they apparently tried to get out of the bakkie she sped away and they continued to case her.

The woman called her father for help as the dread in her rose. While he was making his way to her she drove into the Mashekane Village and screamed out the window for help in tears.

A resident opened their driveway for her when they realised what was happening and with the Nissan bakkie right on her heels. Four people got out of the car three men and a woman threatening her, and shouting racist insults such as the K word according to the victim.

“They used a small fire extinguisher on an old man who was trying to help me.”

The people apparently tried to defend themselves from the four attackers until two of them got into the bakkie and eventually drove off. The woman and man left behind was arrested by the SAPS shortly afterwards.
They apparently received bail of R500 each after their initial appearance in Witbank Magistrates Court on July 27. Their case has been moved to end August.

“When I drive and I hear someone hoot I still get afraid. I am scared to go on the road,” said the victim.

The charge was apparently changed to attempted hi-jacking based on the details of the incident.
Surprisingly this is not the first case reported to the police this week. Another incident of alleged road rage was reported. Apparently on July 28 a man was waiting for the light to turn green at a robot in Watermeyr Street. An unknown driver hooted and shouted at him. He turned at the robot once it went green to avoid the driver but he was apparently followed, the driver of the bakkie sped past him and forced him against the pavement which burst his tyre.

He managed to make it to the nearby petrol station to change it with a racing heart. As soon as he stopped and got out the driver of the bakkie stopped and assaulted the victim and apparently took the keys to his vehicle before driving off.

A case of reckless or negligent driving was opened and the police are investigating these incidents.
